REVEREND BENN SCHIPPER - REMIXES FOR LESS CASH (CDR by Privatelektro)

With a label called Privat Elektro, an artist calling himself Reverend Benn Schipper and a release called 'Remixes For Less Cash', a cover that looks like a mail art object with lots of rubber stamps on it, you could easily think this is some plunderphonic project gone dance. All of it: its not. The pieces on this release are remixes of Lebensreform, some stuff on the Everest label and some pieces he did with Tilman Schmidt. The music is mostly ambient like, glitch like and ultimately very computerized. I am not sure if I really like this, to be honest. I don't think its bad at all, but that doesn't mean that I like it very much. I think the pieces are quite alright, although in general also a bit long, but it sounds like so many other things, say the usual suspects Fennesz, Tim Hecker, Stephan Mathieu (in his early days) or when it has some glitchy rhythm Pan Sonic or Goem. That all makes that I am a bit clueless here. Rated from 1 to 10, I'd have to balance it: a solid 5. (FdW)
