Interview

Location: Leipzig / Germany : march. 2003

* When did you start with your music and what is your Background

I start, making music, shortly after the East German "Revolution". This was around 1991, from this time on, it was possible for me, to by electronic - music - equipment, to a resonable price.
At this time I was living in Chemnitz (former know as Karl-Marx-Stadt). There I start some music-projects together with friends, they also got the fresh electronic-music equipment. We founded together a music-studio in 1996. This called Echorausch. After some years, I moved into another town, Leipzig, there I start my solo-project called TWEX.
In 1998 I began with a project called Westwerk.

* Westwerk?

Westwerk was a Electro-Pop Band. The members of this project are Lee D. Böhm (vocals) and me, playing the electronic part. The Band was locally well know, after some years of playing Live Gigs and 4 CD releases. Last Year (2002) we played the last concert, and we are splitting into 2 solo-projects: "Kauerhof" (my) and "Save as music" (Lee D. Böhm).

* Can you discribe your musical-influences?

The influences started with the early "Detroit"- Techno music and minimal tech. Later I was listening to experimental music, broken beats (like Christian Vogel). Ok., I can say it is a wide range of different styles, to make a short list, but I might describe some music styles: Jungle from 1994, Elektro and Industrial, Folk-music (from Saxonia and Bavaria), German pop music from the 70ties.
Also some songs from Kurt Weill and other musicans from the 20ties and early 30ties. In the actual music tendences I like stuff like Clicks n. Cutz, and some of the abstract laptop-style artists.

* Your solo Project called "Kauerhof" but you will play as TWEX at the Invisible Traces 3. ???

Twex was from the beginning on a live project. There are not existing any releases (Tapes, CDs, etc). With TWEX, I perform often together with Fiat. We are playing live gigs, the context is more experimental, that means an experiment with the room and the listener. This means, we have to get out of our studios and have some fun.
The context of "Kauerhof" on the other hand has much to do with studio-music. Producing tracks, working and thinking a longer time about the sounds and the arrangements.

* Your favorite equipment?

Emax2, MFB Synth Lite, MicroModular, Doepfer 404, Miniworks 4pole, MPC 2000, Siel Cruise, Weltmeister Claviset, Kawai K5

* In your actual projects, what is the target of making sounds and music ?

I am interested in a (so called by myself) "strange music"; like playing around with sounds and beats and unforeseen grooves, best to describing as playable, funky, elektro, groove breaks...
On the other hand, I am working on some text-based, tracks. For this kind of music, I am in a early phase, and starting to experimenting with. This kind of work had more to do with narrative structures and storytelling.

* Whats is your favorite scale ?

C Minor
